I don't know if that much less travel on the safety takedown lever would be enough to cause this issue. Sounds like a misalignment. Flip up the slide lock and try to man-handle it off by moving it back and forth until it gives, just be careful not to bend it sideways. The takedown safety level hooks around a little pin in the rear end of the FCU. This little pin is what move the sear up/down. Somehow the takedown level must have lost its grip to the little pin.
