It would pick your cut grass up however, the blades have to turn to make the unit work so its gojng to cut the grass more when it picks it up. You don’t need to fully take the pulley off. I usually release the tensioner (on powerflow), lift the metal plate above the double pulley, wrap the belt on the top pulley, seat the metal plate back, and pull the lever to tension the belt.
